The only reason PR matters for your own site is Just for impressing people or if you're going to sell advertising space on your site or you plan to sell your site.
For ranking in the SERPs, the PR of your site not matter, but the PR of pages you get backlinks from does.
Here's why:
PR is based on overall backlinks (Total Backlinks), but the SERP position is based on how well your site ranks for a particular keyword.
So lets say your website "abc.com" has the following backlinks to it:
1,000 for "keyword A"
1,000 for "keyword B"
1,000 for "keyword C"
1,000 for "keyword D"
1,000 for "keyword E"
Now the PR will be based on the total 5,000 backlinks, but it's position in the serp for any particular keyword will still be only 1,000 backlinks.
If you create another 5,000 backlinks for "keyword F" then there will be a postive effect on the PR of the site, which now has a total 10,000 backlinks. But it won't affect it's position in the SERP for keywords A thru E, (although "keyword F" will now be ranking based on the new 5,000 links).
So that's why the PR of your own site doesn't matter as far as ranking in the SERPs.
But what about the PR of sites you get backlinks from?
Well,Its just about the weightage , higher PR sites carries

Dilusion 2 Giving no outbound links will retain Page Rank and be better for your rankings
First of all giving outbound links can be very useful to your website’s visitors. Having a useful site for visitors will mean that they will like your site better and may link to it. If you give no links then your site will look very strange.
Also it is thought that giving valuable outbound links from your website will benefit your rankings. So it is pretty much useless to give no links as the net result will be a loss of Page Rank and loss of credibility for your site.
Plus by giving links to other sites you are adding to the internet and making it more popular and useful to the user. Originally links were the primary way to navigate around the web and you will be helping that easy navigation continue if you add links to your site.
If you are worried about loosing people from your site you can always make your links pop up so that your website remains open in the browser in a different window

This is one of the biggest mistakes people make when talking about or trying to get Page Rank for their website. Page Rank is not based purely on the number of links to your site. If you get links from pages that aren’t indexed by Google then the links can’t even be seen by Google. And if Google isn’t aware of the links then they can’t contribute to a better Page Rank

Alexa rank never helps you in to improving google rank or getting you more traffic.
The only reason i might look at Alexa ranking is when i want to buy a site, even at that i will ensure where the traffic is coming from is real or move on, any other thing is baseless
